Internet Explorer 6 was released the 27th of August 2001. Since it was released there have been very few new features if any, and few if any attempts to make it more conforming towards the w3c standards. As an example one can mention that Internet Explorer 6 doesn't even support CSS2 which was released in 1998.

In addition the performance of Internet Explorer 6 is known to be very bad compared to all other alternatives.

This makes Internet Explorer 6 an inferior browser, and even Microsoft themselves have officially gone out and said that they support this Upgrade form Internet Explorer 6 campaign as a result. So you get an inferior web experience directly simply because you are using an inferior browser. And also...

...this makes it very hard for web developers to create applications and websites with rich functionality, which again would benefit you!

If web developers didn't need to think about supporting this browser which in internet years is actually almost 30 years old then you would benefit and be able to see much more rich websites and applications since then developers wouldn't have to support the smallest commonality which always will end up being Internet Explorer 6 as long as its market share is of any kind of significance.

Not only will you get more for less, but Internet Explorer are currently stalling innovation and stopping web developers from creating solutions that we don't even understand ourselves before it's gone. As an example we can imagine how highways was being built, but not before steam powered cars had gone extinct.

Not to mention the costs for society in constantly having to spend significant amounts of time supporting the dinosaur in the room.

So to make a short story even shorter; you get a better experience, web developers becomes less frustrated and the world can evolve at a much higher pace.

Even Microsoft gains since then they can stop maintaining bugfixes and patches for Internet Explorer 6, so we all gain.

Upgrade now, help yourself, help us and help the world (wide web)! :)
